Saturday Afternoon Adventures. . .

Freedom! Our friend, Martina, has been gracious enough to lend us her car while she is away for the next month. No more hitch hiking and waiting around for a ride!

First stop: the gas station, which was closed for no apparent reason - welcome to the Caribbean.

Second stop: Well's Bay. The "wandering" beach usually arrives around May and hangs out until September, but it's late this year. We were about to go snorkeling until we heard the thunderstorm above so it looks like we'll have to go back another time. Plan B . . .

Diamond Rock - popular dive site

Well's Bay - where the beach is supposed to be. Even when the beach does arrive, its slightly dangerous as the rocks from above fall periodically. I guess there's not much sun bathing.

A friendly goat we saw along our way. . .

Third stop: the Sulphur Mine Trail. So far, this is one of the coolest things I've done on Saba. We brought along our best friends, Bronco (Martina's rescue dog from St. Martin) and Allison's 2 rescue dogs from Taiwan, Odie and Show-Hei. Off we go. . .

How picturesque, Odie!

Beautiful views!

The entrance to the mine - spooky! Good thing we brought our flashlights, although they didn't help much. The second we walked in, we were surrounded by darkness, cockroaches and bats. I never actually saw the bats - just heard them!

But it was worth it - check out the sulfur and amethyst! We couldn't stay in the mines too long since it was hard to breathe and unbelievably hot in there, not to mention dangerous. A few years ago, a hiker died in the mines because he could not find his way out (which is why we brought along the dogs).

Upon exiting the mine, we looked up to see this goat watching us from above. Too cute.

Looking up at Mt. Scenery - the storm is coming in.

And then, 5 minutes later. . . the weather is a little unpredictable.
